Week 5: February 8 & February 10

The readings and videos this week really opened my eyes to things in the world that I haven't necessarily wanted to learn. I have always thought I was better off not knowing what all really goes on, but after being in this class I have changed my feelings about being informed on things that I find frightening. After learning about some of these things, my worrying has been lessened. We watched a video on air pollution and how greatly it is increasing. It seemed so surreal to me. I always knew we were polluting our earth but I wasn't aware of to what extent and how fast it was happening. Things such as this are lacking in our educations curriculum. Students need to be taught that we aren't always going to have everything and the amount of it that we have today. Teachers shouldn't try to scare their students but they need to tell them that they all NEED to make changes or else we aren't going to be able to continue living on earth. Just like a reading that we read this week, A Fable for Tomorrow talked about how they woke up one day to an "evil spell" that had settled on their community. It was killing the animals and sickening the people. I also learned about the cruelty of torture that America is using. I had no idea. I couldn't believe that detectives are a loud to torture a child to the point of causing them to falsely admit to committing a crime that they never committed. I feel that the only justifiable reason for torturing someone is if thousands of lives are in danger and can be saved by vital information that might be known to a person. I could have improved my writing this week by not waiting until the last minute and having to rush to complete it on time.
